Ubisoft Splinter Cell: Pandora Tomorrow (GameCube) GameCube Games

Sam Fisher, the covert agent who makes Solid Snake look like Basildon Bond, is back in an all-new sequel to the 2003 hit: Splinter Cell: Pandora Tomorrow. Once again it's down to Fisher alone to rid the world of terrorists and sundry other enemies of Uncle Sam. Although the final game will feature a variety of missions and environments, the single preview level already completed is set on a train and immediately showcases the game's incredible graphics as rain pours down, trains speed by and Sam has to hang on for dear life.

One of the main gameplay changes in this sequel is making sure there are always multiple ways out of any situation. Do you try to clamber along the outside of the train to get to the compartment with the double agent, or do you sneak around inside, knocking out lights and creating distractions? Alternatively, you could just

wade in guns blazing--but with so many neat gadgets such as the new multidirectional door spy, and new moves such as the SWAT spin and an even more painful-looking wall climb (you know the one--you have to do the splits between two walls and then jump down on bad guys without them even knowing you're there), you won't want to take the aggressive option.

What's perhaps most impressive about this sequel is that the developers actually seem to have listened to complaints about the original; so far, the evidence is that Pandora Tomorrow will be far less linear, with the gameplay far less a case of trial and error. That should make it the best stealth game ever, when it's finished. --David Jenkins
