By gathering together an impressive selection of Jamaican music stars, like the Marley Brothers, Sly and Robbie and Beenie Man [with his own particular twist on Kool and The Gang's "Jungle Boogie",] this LP looks pretty good on paper. In an attempt to make the movie more accessible it seems, the compilers have made the mistake of fusing many of the more traditional reggae sounds like dancehall and dub with dated elements of drum & bass [Red Dragon's "We Run Tings"], feel good pop-house, [Luciano's "Police and Thieves"] and quirky hip hop [Innocent Crew's "Papers"]. This is a fusion that at points sounds both forced and discordant. With a number of redeeming cuts like the percussive, afro-cuban dub of "Softcore Surge" and the dub-wise beat technology of "Zen Concrete", it's old boys Sly and Robbie that save the day.-- Found Sounds
