Lancashire DJ exports Andy Duckmanton and Chris Kirkbride are taking no prisoners in 2001; quickly chasing down their contribution to US imprint Streetbeat's "Nu Horizons" series with another mixed collection, this time for Distinctive, Y4K. Following in the deck-steps of nu-school breaks captain Tayo was never going to be easy-going, but the pair handle themselves with aplomb--using the skittery percussion and warm rises of Sirene to set an initially gentle pace before the junglistic barks of "Mr Jingles" from Two Sinners introduces a more melancholic atmosphere. Highlights of the beat-perfect selection come from BLIM, who does a job on Circulation's "Turquoise", while the dirty low end of "M.A.C.E", from ex-junglists Blu MarTen, and a magical remix of Way Out West's "Intensify" from the studio of PMT, ensure hips are kept swinging right into the fade. --Kingsley Marshall
