The NBA Challenge set is part of LEGO's expansion into the world of sports, and they have struck gold with this idea. This set gives you the chance to build your very own NBA court and battle it out with your friends to see who rules the courtside. Each team consists of five figures which are spring-loaded, allowing you to throw, catch and shoot for points. The concept is simple to grasp but will require practice before you have the skill of Jason Kidd or Denis Rodman. However, with patience you will be firing shots like a pro. The initial construction of the court should keep the kids busy: in normal LEGO style you have a clear set of instructions to follow and these should not prove too tricky even for the younger end of the suggested age range (seven years and above). LEGO seem to have thought of the potential pitfalls associated with this type of ball game and provide three basketballs, so if a ball goes out of play forever you have a couple of spares to keep you going at the all-important match. This is by far the best outing into sports for LEGO and is already proving to be a slam-dunk of a range. --Richard Earle
